What Is a Car’s Powertrain Made Of?

Exactly what is the powertrain on a car made up of? As we mentioned before, the powertrain consists of the transmission, driveshaft, axles, differential, and engine. But, how do all of these parts work together to help your vehicle move on the roads of Paradise Valley? 

Let’s break down how your vehicle’s powertrain works: 

• Engine: The engine is the heart of your vehicle and the main part of your powertrain. It makes the power that moves your car. 
• Transmission: Power from the engine goes into the transmission, which helps regulate that power as you drive. 
• Driveshaft: The transmission regulates the engine power and converts that power into what we call “torque”. Torque is then directed to the driveshat. 
• Differential: Power from the car’s driveshaft is directed to the differential, and this is what turns your wheels at different speeds. You might not think about it that much, but your car’s wheels don’t all turn at the same speed as this would interfere with how smooth your car drives. 
• Axles: Last but not least is the axle. The axle is what makes your wheels spin on after power is sent from the engine to the differential.
